Introduction of the institute
Huittisten ammatti- ja yrittäjäopisto (Huittinen Business and Vocational College) is an upper secondary level vocational institute which offers the following fields of study: 1) Natural Resources and the Environment, 2) Natural Sciences, and 3) Social Sciences, Business and Administration. The total number of students in vocational upper secondary education is about 450 students, and there are approximately 500 students in further education annually. The number of employees is approximately 80. The campus areas of the institute are situated in Huittinen and Kokemäki, and the further education center also operates in various locations in the Satakunta region.
Huittinen Business and Vocational College is administered by the educational administration of the municipality of Huittinen until the end of year 2008. From the beginning of the year 2009, Huittinen Business and Vocational College is a part of the Vocational Institute of Sastamala.
The Huittinen Unit
In Huittinen, we provide education in the following fields of study and study programs (120 credits):
• Vocational Qualification in Business and Administration, Merkonomi, 3 years.
o Customer Services and Marketing
o Business Administration
• Vocational Qualification in Business Information Technology, Datanomi, 3 years.
o Information Systems Development
In Huittinen, it is possible to study in the daytime or in the evening classes.
The Kokemäki Unit
In Kokemäki, we provide education in the following fields of study and study programs (120 credits):
• Vocational Qualification in Agriculture, Rural Entrepreneur, 2—3 years
o Arable Land, Forests, and Farming Technology
o Pets and Productive Animals
• Vocational Qualification in Horticulture, Gardener, 2—3 years
o Horticultural Production
o Landscaping
o Floristry and Horticultural Business
Selling, production and service activities support practical training. The Kokemäki Agricultural Training Farm has 104 hectares of arable land, 148 ha of forest area, and 51 ha of other areas. The total area is 3003 ha. We also have 4,000 square metres of greenhouse area.
On the Kokemäki training farm we grow various crops, such as oats, fodder barley, spring wheat and winter rye, as well as sugar beet. There are also silage, hay and pasture areas for the breeding of domestic animals. We grow several kinds of outdoor vegetables, berries, and fruit in the garden, and trees, bushes and perennials at the Karimaa nursery. In our greenhouses a wide range of flowers, ornamental plants and vegetables are grown all year round. The institute has two garden shops.
Summer hotel Tyrni in Kokemäki operates on a pre-booking basis all year round in connection with our student dormitory.
Further Education
The further education sector of Huittinen Business and Vocational College provides a wide range of training in the fields of agriculture and horticulture as well as business and administration. Our training selection ranges from various short courses to vocational and specialized vocational diplomas.
International Operations
The target of the international operations of Huittinen Business and Vocational College is for the student to get along in the multicultural environment, be tolerant, and to know languages in order to be able to participate in student exchange and in the international labour market.
Our institute has numerous international connections. Every student has an opportunity to participate in on-the-job learning abroad. Student and teacher contacts, on-the-job learning periods and various projects (such as Leonardo da Vinci and Comenius projects) make functioning in an international environment possible. The institute has partners in Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, The Neatherlands, Spain, Sweden, and The United Kingdom.
